We all know that adding fruits and vegetables to your diet can provide health benefits.
What we didn’t know is that blueberries in particular are linked directly to assisting those who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, metabolic syndrome and severe inflammation among many other health benefits.
PTSD or Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder isn’t just something soldiers coming back from war suffer from. Up to 8% of people in the U.S suffer from this disorder as a result of witnessing or being the victim or a traumatic event.
Not only can having PTSD effect your everyday life, but the depression and anxiety that effects those diagnosed can lead to serious injury or death.
Currently, the only therapy or medicine offered for PTSD is selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIS’s such as Zoloft and Paxil, but their effectiveness is marginal.
Thanks to the researchers at Louisiana State University, the blueberry superfood can actually be another form of treatment for patients.
While the University is still in the experimental phase of research, we are happy that a natural and healthy treatment is being tested for those in need.
