Wish Farms’ White Strawberry: What is a Pineberry?

You may have seen blush pink  or white strawberries in recent years at your local retailers, and we’re sure you have some questions. Here’s everything you need to know about Wish Farms’ Pink-A-Boo Pineberry!

What is a pineberry?

A cross between the Japanese white strawberry and a Florida red strawberry, Pineberries are a University of Florida variety that was developed through natural breeding techniques.

Where does their color come from?

The unique white to blush color comes from a lack of anthocyanins – the pigment that gives strawberries their bright red color.

Unlike the traditional strawberry, pineberries remain pale even when fully ripe, sometimes developing a delicate blush pink hue. Our harvesters are trained to pick the berries when the seeds turn bright red.

What does a Pineberry taste like?

Pineberries have a strawberry flavor with subtle notes of pear and apricot. With lower acidity than red strawberries, pineberries have a smoother and more mild finish.

This flavorful berry is a must-try for anyone looking for a fresh and exciting twist on a traditional favorite!

When is Pineberry season ?

Pineberry season in Florida begins mid November and runs through March (think Thanksgiving to Easter).

What can you make with Pineberries?

Pineberries pair beautifully with cucumbers, peaches, mint, and more! You can find recipe inspiration here: Pineberry Recipes.
