Each year, in support of our local agriculture-focused students, Wish Farms purchases livestock raised by members of the Future Farmers of America organization. We purchase the livestock during the Florida Strawberry Festival and Florida State Fair auctions. We then turn around and donate the harvested meat to local charities or food banks.
In November, we purchased a hog from a FFA student at the Florida State Fair livestock auction, and with this, we were able to donate 160 pounds of frozen pork to the United Food Bank of Plant City. This meat will then be distributed and provide nutritious meals to the families in need throughout our community.
When contacted by the United Food Bank of Plant City they described how our efforts will be helping the community. “Donors, like you, help make this food bank operate on a daily basis to help the most-needy in our community. We can offer help to children and families who could not, otherwise, afford to maintain a healthy nutritional lifestyle.”
